Ram Is Recalling Trucks, Warning Drivers Not to Park Inside

Thanks to a recall issued by Stellantis earlier this week, drivers of certain models of Ram Heavy Duty pickups and chassis cab trucks have been warned not to park their vehicles indoors due to the risk of fire. The auto company said in a press release that they were made aware of six potential cases related to fire. One of those cases was reported to have occurred after the truck's ignition was turned off. While the company believes that the fire risk is minimal and has not been made aware of any related injuries or accidents, in the meantime, they highly advise owners to err on the side of caution and not to park their vehicles indoors.

Almost 341,000 trucks were affected in the recall; of those affected are the certain model-year vehicles from 2021-2023, including the following:

  • Ram pickup 2500
  • Ram pickup 3500
  • Cab chassis truck 3500
  • Cab chassis truck 4500
  • Cab chassis truck 5500

Along with these models, the recall population is limited to those vehicles that are equipped with 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and prior-generation heater-grid relays. Ram parent company Stellantis, under its U.S. operating arm of FCA US, issued a statement explaining that a company investigation discovered that the intake heater-grid relays could overheat on certain vehicles.

Stellantis Previously Recalls Their Ram Pickup Trucks

This isn't the first time the car company has had to issue a recall. Back in 2022, Stellantis, which also owns the Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Jeep brands, also recalled approximately 1.4 million Ram pickups worldwide because of a tailgate issue that could send unsecured cargo spilling onto the roadways. The automaker had been informed of the issue during a routine review of customers' records, which led to a company investigation that found tailgate striker plates on certain vehicles were not properly aligned for complete closure.

As for the most recent recall, Stellantis said they expect to begin notifying those affected customers next month. However, until then, customers are welcome to enter their vehicle identification numbers on the following websites mopar.com/recall, checktoprotect.org, or nhtsa.gov to determine whether the trucks are part of the recall. Ram owners with additional questions or concerns over their trucks are also urged to call 1-800-853-1403.
