Late last month, in collaboration with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), SECURA, a small appliance manufacturer in North America, issued a recall for over 6,400 of their Secura Air Fryers. The recall comes after the CPSC received nine reports of the air fryer catching fire, burning, and smoking. According to an investigation into the air fryer, the company found during the manufacturing process that a faulty wire connection in the air fryer could lead to a fire or burn hazard for users.

Currently, there are zero reports of injuries or property damage in any of the reported cases. However, while some products may appear safe to use, due to the risk, owners in possession of the recalled air fryers are encouraged to return or replace the product as soon as possible. The recalled air fryers include the Secura SAF-53 and SAF-53D.  Both products were sold online in the United States and Canada at thesecura.com and Amazon.com from May 2019 through October 2020 for between $48 and $90.

As mentioned, the recall includes the Secura air fryers with model numbers SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) and SAF-53 (TXG-DS16). Both models roughly measure 12 inches high, 11 inches deep, and 12 inches wide. The Secura air fryer model TXG-DS16 (SAF-53) is black in color with either a silver, grey, white, or gold accent and includes the date codes 1903 and 1904. The Secura air fryer model SAF-53D (TXG-DT16E) is black in color with a silver accent and includes the date code 1901.

Customers can locate the date codes printed on the silver manufacturer labels on the bottom of the appliance, as well as find the Secura logo featured in black near the top of the product. In order to verify your air fryer is affected by the recall, customers are asked to ensure that both numbers match the recalled models and date codes. Customers who are able to verify if their air fryer is affected should stop all use for their own safety and contact Secura to receive a free replacement or a $45 Amazon gift card.

Customers who choose a free replacement are eligible to select from the products listed on Secura’s webpage. In order to recover the gift card or replacement product, consumers must first provide their contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with the power cord cut off and include the product’s date code. Customers who no longer have the receipt for their air fryer are still eligible to receive a replacement or gift card.

If you qualify for a replacement, you can expect the replacement product to be shipped within 6 to 8 weeks from the date you contacted Secura. The small appliance company is currently working to contact all known purchasers; however, if you have not been contacted or are still unable to identify if your Secura air fryer is affected by the recall, customers can contact Secura toll-free at 888-792-2360 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or by email at customercare@thesecura.com
